Studies are starting to show sunscreens are not protecting us like we thought!
For years we have been told to lather chemical filled sunscreens all over before going out in the sun. I have always hated sunscreens. They always make me break out and cause my skin to be extremely oily. But I continued to put them because I was always told that I need to protect my skin. Well as I have dived deeper into researching sunscreens and the chemical effect on our bodies it is starting to become clear that most of the marketing we see is a lot of garbage.
Studies are starting to show that heavily used chemical sunscreens may actually increase cancers by creating more free radicals on the skin. These chemicals breakdown in the sun and start to form free radicals on the surface of your skin. These free radicals can potential cause major skin damage and even cancer. One of the most powerful free radical generators known is the ingredient Benzophenone so avoid buying any sunscreen products containing that ingredient.
Adding to the problem is the risk of contamination concerns that I have mention in previous posts. Some ingredients in sunscreens can form cancer causing agents that absorb right through the skin and enter the bloodstream. The most shocking aspect I have read is that these ingredients have now been found in breast milk and are potentially reaching our children without us knowing.
To further add to the problem is many free radical generating sunscreen chemicals also have estrogen like-effects. These effects can increase cancers, cause birth defects in children, lower sperm counts in men along with other serious medical problems. Estrogen chemicals can mimic hormonal estrogen and cause many problems.
It took me a long time to find a truly natural sunscreen but my search is over. I found a great company out of florida who uses zinc oxide as the SPF ingredient and uses a great formula for the inactive ingredients to help fight free radicals from forming and keep your skin looking young and vibrant.
Check it out all the ingredients are posted:

Please be aware of what you are putting on your skin it is in your bodies best interest!

I will definitely be reading the label of our sunscreen before putting it on myself and especially my 2 very young children. Good Post!
